Paws For Thoughts: Like The Weather, Business Always Changes. It’s Up To Us To Adapt

As I sit here in our Chicago office today crafting this greeting to all our Fox Tales readers, and wanting to be warm and fuzzy in my business approach to you, outside is what the Chicago Tribune just called a Polar Vortex!

It’s about 10 degrees below zero, or as most of us say, 10 below, and the wind chill makes that about 20 or 30 below! They’ve cancelled all Chicago Public Schools for today. That leaves working parents with a real problem, and most have to cancel coming to the offices to work.

Most of the Fox crew made it to the office here in Chicago and in our other cities as well.

It gives us a chance to reflect on the fact that there are a whole lot of things that we can’t control, even though we badly need to. If you liked the weather when it was warm and sunny last summer, well, that’s when you can plan to enjoy it, and should, just like in business. Other times it’s cold and snowy.

Both weather and business can be all that you desire at one point, and the next you are faced with conditions that seemingly cannot be controlled. So you adapt. You pivot. You heavy up at times, and hunker down at others, and enjoy the results—or not.

There’s a local description called ‘Chicago Girl.’ I am one! It means that we deal with what we can, and we do what we gotta do! We can stand the cold, because we know there’s a nice warm office awaiting us in the morning and a nice warm home awaiting us at night. Chicago Girls are strong. They/we adapt. We fight the conditions and we hold out for a good ending.

We’d love it if you could strive to be your own gender-adaptive Chicago Girl. Let us know!
