By Marlys FoxSomething’s been bothering me. It’s something I read online. An industry source. Probably LinkedIn. It went something like this:
- Your boss is not your friend.
- Your co-workers are not your family.
- So just do your work and go home. that’s it!
It went on to say that the people you spend one-third of your time with, maybe half if you just count the daylight hours, will fire you at will. They’ll stab you in the back for no reason, or to advance themselves. They’ll betray you and more. For those reasons the article cautioned against sharing any personal info about yourself. To reveal nothing about yourself that could possibly be misinterpreted and used against you.

It didn’t get much pushback. In fact, it got some support.
Good Gawd, people, do you agree with that? I do not! I feel almost exactly the opposite!

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to cherish—is that too strong a word? Okay, I’ll continue to value every one of my business connections and every one of my employees. I value loyalty most highly among all personal traits. I feel a need and responsibility to be loyal to all, to mentor anyone I can, and to urge everyone to be all they can be. I feel a strong personal connection to anyone who shares my values.
There are too many “I”s in this Paws for Thoughts. It really is more about you, and that’s why I’m urging you to get back to me on this subject. Please.
